What is random digit dialling?
Random digit dialling is a method of generating telephone numbers at random to contact potential respondents. It includes both listed and unlisted numbers, giving broader coverage than a standard directory. It is most commonly used in market research and political polling where a representative population sample is needed.
Is random digit dialling legal in Australia?
The Australian Privacy Principles do not prevent a business from using random number dialling to market products. If a business is collecting personal information during the call, it must comply with the Australian Privacy Principles and consider its obligations under the Do Not Call Register Act and the Spam Act. Any number on the Do Not Call Register must not be called for telemarketing purposes.
What is the difference between random digit dialling and a verified phone list?
True RDD generates numbers at random, which means a high proportion of calls will hit inactive numbers, businesses, fax lines, or contacts on the DNC Register. Around five calls are typically needed to reach one working residential number using random dialling. A verified phone list removes inactive and non compliant numbers before you start, and lets you filter by demographics and location so you are calling the right audience from the outset.
Do I still need to check the DNC Register if I use a verified list?
We wash every list against the DNC Register before delivery and provide a DNC wash receipt number with each order. The DNC Register is updated regularly though, and best practice is to re-wash any list that has been held for more than 30 days before using it again. We recommend ordering close to your campaign start date.
Can I filter a large phone list by location or demographics?
Yes. You can filter by state, postcode, suburb, age, gender, household income, socio economic status, and property type. For broad reach campaigns, we can supply high volume lists across wide geographic areas. For targeted campaigns, the same filters narrow the list to a specific audience profile.
